Terms of Service
Effective July 11, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and us when you use Pilotage. We've written them to be read, not skimmed — they're short as these things go, and they say what we mean.
1. Who we are
Pilotage is made by Art of Sullivan, Inc. ("we," "us"). Pilotage is a mobile app that teaches the language of aviation — instruments, radio phraseology, airspace, and more — in short daily lessons. You can reach us any time at greg@pilotageapp.com.
2. Accepting these terms
By creating an account or using Pilotage, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect and why. If you don't agree, don't use the app.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use Pilotage. If you're under 18, you should have your parent or guardian's permission.
4. Your account
You need an account to use Pilotage — your progress, streaks, and subscription follow you across devices, and an account is how they do that. You agree to:
- Give us accurate information when you sign up.
- Keep your sign-in credentials to yourself. What happens under your account is your responsibility.
- Use one account per person.
You can delete your account at any time, from inside the app (Profile → Delete account) or as described on our account deletion page. Deletion is permanent.
5. Pilotage Premium
Some content requires Pilotage Premium, an auto-renewing subscription. The plain-English version of how it works:
- Billing runs through the app store — Apple's App Store or Google Play, depending on your device. We never see or store your payment details.
- The price and billing period are shown before you buy, on the purchase screen. That screen is the authoritative statement of what you'll be charged and how often.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Cancel any time in your device's subscription settings (App Store: Settings → your name → Subscriptions; Google Play: Play Store → Payments & subscriptions). Cancelling stops the next renewal; it doesn't refund the current period.
- If a free trial is offered, its length and the price you'll be charged when it ends are shown before you start it. Cancel before the trial ends and you won't be charged.
- Refunds are handled by Apple and Google under their policies, since they process the payment.
- Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription. The app store keeps billing until you cancel with them. The app reminds you of this before deletion, and so are we, here.
6. Training only — not for navigation
Pilotage is a study tool, not an operational one. Nothing in the app is a substitute for an authorized flight instructor, an FAA-approved course of training, current charts and publications, or your own judgment as a pilot. Do not use Pilotage for real-world navigation, flight planning, or communication with actual air traffic control. Chart excerpts, frequencies, weather, and procedures in the app exist to teach concepts and may be simplified, dated, or fictionalized for that purpose.
7. Acceptable use
Don't do these things:
- Copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute the app or its content.
- Reverse-engineer the app or probe our systems, except where the law says we can't stop you.
- Interfere with the service or other people's use of it, or access it with automated tools.
- Misrepresent who you are — including claiming instructor credentials you don't hold.
8. Our content
The app, its lessons, characters, artwork, audio, and everything else in Pilotage belong to Art of Sullivan, Inc. or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use the app for your own learning. That license lasts as long as your account does and doesn't include any of the rights listed in section 7.
9. Your data
Your learning progress belongs to your account. We process it to run the service — scheduling your reviews, keeping your streak honest, syncing across devices — as described in the Privacy Policy. We don't sell it, and we don't show you ads.
10. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Pilotage and delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, abuse the service, or create risk for us or other users — we'll be reasonable about it, and where practical we'll tell you why.
11. Disclaimers
Pilotage is provided "as is" and "as available." We work to a high standard, but we can't promise the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular content will remain available. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Art of Sullivan, Inc. will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of Pilotage. Our total liability for any claim relating to the app is limited to the greater of $50 or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Changes to these terms
If we make material changes, we'll post the updated terms here with a new effective date and give you notice in the app. Continuing to use Pilotage after changes take effect means you accept them.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction.
